Bud Smith is editor of gvDaily. Bud is also lead author of Google Voice for Dummies, upcoming from Wiley in November. Bud spotted the potential of Google Voice the day it was announced and moved quickly to find a co-author and a publisher.

Bud has been a successful author for more than twenty years. He wrote early books about telecommunications and buying a PC. His best-seller has been Creating Web Pages For Dummies, now in its ninth edition. He’s also written about Google Apps and is working on a book about WordPress. His books have sold more than a million copies.

Bud has an extensive background in high tech as a software developer, technical writer, project manager, product manager and management consultant. He began his career in Silicon Valley working for a startup in multi-tasking software. He was a computer magazine editor, then worked for Apple for seven years, including stints with Taligent, in competitive analysis and in marketing for QuickTime.

Later work included a brief stint at Microsoft, work for AltaVista as it almost went public in the dot-com crash, then Web site management for AOL Netscape. Bud then worked for an internal communications agency with clients including BAE Systems, Smith & Nephew and Coca-Cola.

Bud has since worked and consulted for companies in satellite navigation, risk management and technology for the blind. His most recent effort was leading a project at HSBC to bring online video to many of HSBC’s 330,000 employees worldwide.

Bud holds a BA in Information Systems Management from the University of San Francisco and an MSc in Information Systems from the London School of Economics.
